Leadership Coaching Program for Millennial Leaders – Across Africa

Context & Objectives:

CoachBase delivered a 6-month leadership coaching program for 14 millennial leaders across six African countries. Many of these leaders had little or no prior formal leadership training, yet were responsible for managing remote, cross-cultural teams in dynamic and complex work environments. The program was designed to address the unique challenges of leading geographically dispersed teams, while strengthening leadership capabilities, enhancing team engagement, and fostering a coaching-driven approach to people management.

The key objectives of the program included:

  • Equipping leaders with the skills and strategies to manage people and performance across multiple regions.
     
  • Developing the ability to lead time-sensitive, distributed projects efficiently and effectively.
     
  • Instilling a coaching-based leadership style to empower teams, encourage collaboration, and drive engagement.
     

Approach:

The 6-month program was structured around Executive coaching, interactive workshops, and practical application exercises. CoachBase Coaching platform adopted a hands-on, collaborative methodology to ensure leaders could immediately apply learning to their real-world challenges.

  1. Managing people and performance across regions: Leaders were coached on strategies to supervise dispersed teams while maintaining performance standards, fostering accountability, and addressing cultural nuances. This included training on effective communication, remote performance management, and conflict resolution in a cross-cultural context.
     
  2. Leading time-sensitive, distributed projects: Through scenario-based exercises and guided coaching sessions, participants learned to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and make agile decisions for projects spanning multiple countries. Leaders developed practical frameworks to ensure projects stayed on track while balancing regional differences and resource constraints.
     
  3. Empowering teams through a coaching-based leadership style: Central to the program was cultivating a leadership mindset that focuses on mentorship, empowerment, and team development. Leaders were trained to inspire confidence, encourage ownership among team members, and enhance overall team performance by fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
     

Results:

The program is currently showing strong early outcomes, including improved management confidence, increased engagement of remote teams, and heightened cultural adaptability in leadership practices. Participants reported feeling more capable of motivating and guiding their teams across regions while maintaining high performance standards. The program also reinforced the value of a coaching-oriented approach in leadership, promoting sustainable team growth and stronger organizational outcomes.
