Context & Objectives:

When a CAC40 IT consulting firm launched a new project in the Singapore banking sector, it assembled a team that was both multicultural and polyvalent, bringing together professionals from different countries, disciplines, and backgrounds. While this diversity offered immense potential, it also posed challenges: differing work styles, cultural perspectives, and communication approaches could easily hinder early collaboration.

The leadership team understood that the first 90 days are critical for new project teams. Establishing alignment, cohesion, and purpose at the start can significantly influence long-term performance and project outcomes. With this in mind, a team coaching engagement was designed with the support of a trusted coaching company to accelerate integration and ensure the team could quickly deliver value to the client.

The program focused on:

  • Building a shared identity and sense of belonging to foster team spirit and reduce fragmentation.

  • Increasing awareness of individual and collective strengths so members could leverage diversity as an asset rather than a barrier.

  • Improving collaboration and communication across backgrounds, ensuring smooth interaction despite cultural and professional differences.

Approach:

The engagement combined interactive coaching sessions with structured reflection exercises to help the team define its way of working. Coaches facilitated open dialogue, enabling members to surface expectations, values, and preferred collaboration styles.

  • Shared identity and belonging: Through guided discussions and group activities, the team co-created a collective vision and identified common goals, creating a foundation of unity and trust.

  • Strengths awareness: Individual assessments and team exercises highlighted unique skills and perspectives, showing how differences could be harnessed to enhance project outcomes.

  • Cross-cultural collaboration: The program included simulations and role plays tailored to the banking context, allowing team members to practice navigating cultural nuances in communication and decision-making.

By combining practical tools with coaching techniques available through a leading coaching platform, the program helped transform a diverse group of professionals into a cohesive team aligned with both client expectations and company values. The initiative also reflected best practices in corporate training, ensuring that the coaching was directly connected to business objectives.

Results:

The impact of the program was tangible and immediate. Feedback from participants highlighted deeper trust, clarity of purpose, and improved day-to-day collaboration.

86% of participants strongly agreed the coaching enhanced alignment with company values, improved collaboration, and deepened both personal and team self-awareness. Beyond the numbers, managers observed smoother communication within the group and greater resilience when facing client challenges. The onboarding coaching not only accelerated integration but also positioned the team for sustainable success throughout the project lifecycle.
