Context & Objectives:

A Tier 1 Swiss bank operating across Europe and Asia sought to enhance the coaching capabilities of its internal sales trainers. With teams spread across multiple regions, the bank recognized the need to strengthen the effectiveness of training delivery, feedback processes, and team facilitation.

The primary objectives of this ICF-accredited “Train the Trainer” coaching program were:

  • To teach core coaching principles and frameworks, equipping trainers with professional coaching skills applicable in a global banking context.

  • To develop the ability to apply group coaching techniques during training sessions, fostering engagement and collaborative learning.

  • To elevate feedback and facilitation skills within teams, ensuring consistent and impactful learning experiences.

  • To build a cohort of internal trainers capable of sustaining a coaching culture, promoting continuous development and improved performance across regional teams.

By achieving these objectives, the program aimed to strengthen the internal learning ecosystem, improve trainer confidence, and drive engagement in ongoing development initiatives. Participants were also encouraged to find a coach for continued growth beyond the program, reinforcing the adoption of ICF coach standards in daily practice.

Approach:

The program was designed as a group coaching initiative delivered virtually and in-person for 30 internal sales trainers across Europe and Asia. Leveraging ICF-accredited methodologies, the curriculum blended theoretical learning with practical application to ensure tangible skill development.

Key elements of the approach included:

  • Teaching core coaching principles and frameworks: Trainers learned structured coaching models, active listening, questioning techniques, and methods to guide participants toward self-discovery and performance improvement.

  • Applying group coaching techniques: Trainers practiced facilitating group discussions, managing diverse participant dynamics, and ensuring that learning objectives were met collaboratively.

  • Elevating feedback and facilitation skills: Through role-plays, scenario-based exercises, and peer coaching, trainers refined their ability to deliver actionable, constructive feedback while maintaining participant engagement.

The program emphasized experiential learning, allowing trainers to immediately apply coaching techniques within real-world scenarios. Ongoing reflection, peer feedback, and coaching demonstrations reinforced skill retention and boosted confidence in delivering high-quality coaching services.

Results:

Upon completion, trainers earned 15 Continuing Coach Education Units (CCEUs), validating their professional development and expertise in coaching practices. Feedback indicated that participants experienced stronger engagement in internal learning, improved facilitation skills, and greater confidence in delivering impactful training sessions.

The initiative successfully built a cohort of trainers equipped to enhance team performance, drive engagement, and embed a coaching culture throughout the bank’s European and Asian operations. By combining structured coaching principles with practical application, the program created lasting value for both trainers and the broader organization.
